Carlsbad, NM - May 2017 - The Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD) is pleased to welcome Harbor Freight Tools to Carlsbad. The tool store will be located in the former Hastings location in the Northgate Shopping Center, located at 1505 W. Pierce Street.
Hastings closed all of its stores nationwide last year after filing for bankruptcy. The corporation failed to find a buyer for its 123 stores, and instead liquidated all merchandise. The Carlsbad Hastings closed in October 2016.
Harbor Freight will fill the approximate 18,000 square feet left behind.
"We are excited for Harbor Freight, and Carlsbad," said John Waters, executive director for the CDOD. "We began working with Harbor Freight about three years ago."
The CDOD has been instrumental in bringing in several new businesses recently, including Carl's Jr. Ross, Maurice's, Famous Footwear, and Melrose Fashions.
"Several developers, brokers, and site selectors are currently looking at the Carlsbad market," said Jeff Campbell, director of marketing and business development for the CDOD. "We see this activity, and it tells us that our market is still very healthy and viable."
Both Harbor Freight and Carl's Jr. are slated to open later this year.
